Nominate a future High Sheriff of Oxfordshire...

It’s that time of year again when we invite nominations for the historic role of High Sheriff of Oxfordshire.

The High Sheriff is one of the oldest secular offices in the United Kingdom, dating back over a thousand years. Today, the role continues to play an important part in our county’s life – supporting the judiciary and emergency services, encouraging those who work to keep our communities safe, and shining a light on the unsung heroes who make a difference behind the scenes.

It is a Royal appointment, independent and non-political, but it provides a unique platform to champion justice, celebrate voluntary endeavour, and bring together people from across the whole community. Every High Sheriff brings their own focus, personality and creativity to the role – whether that’s supporting young people, strengthening interfaith relations, or recognising those who quietly make Oxfordshire a better place.

We’re now seeking nominations for future holders of this important office. To help you decide if someone you know might be suitable, you can read the Person Specification for the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire which sets out the qualities, eligibility, and expectations.

If you’d like to put forward a name, please complete the Nomination Form and return it to us.

⚠️ The closing date for nominations is Sunday 14th September 2025.

Please do nominate someone – it is a rare opportunity to recognise someone who could make a lasting impact on the life of our county.

And one final thought: don’t just think of the “usual suspects.” This role belongs to the whole of Oxfordshire. Think widely, think creatively – and help us find someone whose service, energy and imagination will enrich the life of our county for years to come.
