On Monday evening we gathered in the beautiful surroundings of Pembroke College, Oxford for the High Sheriff’s Awards 2026 - a chance to celebrate individuals and organisations whose courage, compassion and commitment strengthen communities across our county.

My sincere thanks to The Rt Hon Sir Ernest Ryder PC DL, Master of Pembroke College, for his exceptionally generous hospitality in hosting the ceremony. I am also deeply grateful to HM Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Marjorie Glasgow BEM, for joining us and offering reflections on the extraordinary contribution made by volunteers and community leaders across the county.

The evening was expertly led by the High Sheriff’s Cadets, who served as Masters of Ceremonies with confidence and warmth. It was a powerful reminder that the next generation of service is already stepping forward.

The awards reflect the theme of my year as High Sheriff, Hearing the Young Unheard, and recognise people who amplify voices, build belonging, strengthen community safety and quietly make Oxfordshire a better place.

The recipients represent an extraordinary cross-section of our county - youth workers, volunteers, community leaders, justice professionals and young advocates who have turned personal experience into powerful action for others.

Rather than attempt to summarise their remarkable stories here, you can read about each of the award recipients and watch the short films shown on the night on the page below:

Every one of the recipients reminds us that service does not always make headlines - but it changes lives.

To all those honoured this evening, and to the many others across Oxfordshire who serve quietly and consistently: thank you.
