Celebrating Outstanding Local Heroes - High Sheriff's Awards 2025

On 10th March 2025, the historic County Hall in Oxford played host to a heart-warming evening of celebration and gratitude as this year’s High Sheriff’s Awards honoured individuals whose selfless service and extraordinary contributions have made Oxfordshire a better, kinder place.

Each award recognised the quiet power of commitment, compassion, and community spirit—qualities that shine brightly in every one of the 2025 recipients.

🎖️ Tim Wiseman was recognised for leading a groundbreaking knife crime counter-narrative, offering young people guidance and hope without fuelling fear—an approach that could well save lives.

🎭 Paul Ingram, a stalwart of the arts, received his award for a lifetime of musical contribution through the Kidlington Amateur Operatic Society and the Woodstock Music Society—bringing joy and cultural richness to his communities.

🏡 Jordanna Riches was honoured for her dedicated service to Weston-on-the-Green, transforming the Village Hall into a vibrant community hub through tireless fundraising and organising unforgettable events.

Alan Griffin was celebrated for his decades-long commitment to maintaining St. Mary’s Church in Bloxham. Through patience and perseverance, he has helped preserve the oldest building in the community for future generations.

💛 Kay O’Regan has spent years supporting people experiencing homelessness across the county. Her invaluable role in the OHM Volunteer Hub and her relentless compassion continue to touch countless lives.

🌾 Caroline Dalton received recognition for her guardianship of Littleworth Windmill, raising vital funds and awareness to preserve this cherished historical landmark.

🚗 John Pearson has given nearly 15 years of dedicated service as a volunteer driver for Thame Community Car. As Chair, Treasurer, and the driving force behind the service, his impact on mobility and independence for older residents cannot be overstated.

🙏 Maggie Simons, churchwarden of St Mary’s Ashbury, was honoured for her leadership and tireless efforts in achieving the bronze Eco Church award and supporting generations of vicars with warmth and wisdom.

📬 Nick Watkins, Marston’s beloved postman for 15 years, was celebrated for his cheerfulness, compassion, and unparalleled dedication—often going the extra mile (sometimes quite literally) for his community.

🎄 Hilli Waller was recognised for founding the Charlbury Christmas Tree Festival, an inclusive, joyous event that has become a cornerstone of local community celebration and fundraising.

🌟 Nitish Anand, founder of /ID - Indians in Didcot, was honoured for nurturing a supportive and thriving community of over 850 members. Under his leadership, /ID has become a vibrant force for unity, inclusion, and cultural pride.

Each award winner reminds us that true leadership begins at home—in the streets we walk, the halls we gather in, and the quiet, everyday acts of care that bind us together.
