What I am looking to achieve during my year as High Sheriff of your County

Our justice system, law enforcement authorities, prisons and probation service have all been under great pressure during the last 2 years; my detailed knowledge of what they do and how they work is very limited. However, I look forward to working closely with all of them, understanding more fully the challenges they face and being an advocate for them in our community.
The key theme of my Shrieval year is “Supporting young people from challenged backgrounds” including encouraging our numerous, wonderful youth charities to work collaboratively more closely.
I have chosen to support three excellent “youth charities”, namely;

The lasting impact of what we do together is far more important to me than the finite sum of money raised. Very pleasingly, all three charities have agreed to work together to maximise the benefit of their work.
I am also working with Oxfordshire Youth to bring all charities that support young people within our county together for a one-day workshop; in part to maximise collaboration between charities, but also to introduce these charities to business people and others who can act as trustees, mentors and the like to the charities.
Recognising the immense amount of good work already being carried out in our county for children from challenged backgrounds will be central to my year.

What I am most excited about

Having spent a career working in the construction industry; it is wonderful to have the opportunity to do something totally different. From learning about the Judiciary to being part of Police operations to helping young people; I am on a very sharp learning curve. These new challenges have already got my adrenaline running.
On a personal, purely selfish level as an avid, but fading Real Tennis and wider Rackets sports player of many years; I am hugely looking forward to our six rackets sports day at Radley College on the 26th April 2022 in aid of Active Oxfordshire.
